Site Mission

The BMW community has ALWAYS been a great source of friendship and community for me. So I've always tried to give back a little the best I can. Since 2001, BMW turbo fans have been discussing the M102/M106 motors at BMW Turbos! This is a great site because it has great people! I know it sounds kind of weird to "non-BMW" people, but through this site, I've met very good friends from all over the Earth! BMW people -- you know what I'm talking about!

This web site has its beginnings as www.745i.com. As webmaster for the "745i club", I've always had a plan for having two club web sites: One site would be a Threaded Message Board and the other site would be a Knowledge Base . I had a dream of somehow extrapolating the tech data, procedures, articles, tips and other important stuff from the daily jumble of messages (which is the style of any message board) and somehow compiling that into a meaningful reference database at www.745i.com

Well that plan never played out well. I was too busy to update the Knowledge Base . For years, the www.745i.com grew old and stagnant.

But recently I have been learning about this new software called Wiki Wiki (see link for an explanation of Wiki Wiki ) . It took my CO2-soaked brain cells a while to understand what a Wiki Wiki is. But after a while, I began to understand. I installed a Wiki on my web server and began to play with it. I realized it would make the perfect Knowledge Base because I would only be requred to maintain the container of the site, not the contents!.

YOU get to add and maintain the contents.

Most importantly, the information is kept up to date by the Members. So you never have that problem of searching a message board to find a procedure only to discover that the answer you found was out-of-date, or replaced by a newer, more accurate answer. (This has always been the major challenge of using a Threaded Message Board format as a Knowledge Base .)

So with some major Wiki Wiki on my brain, I built www.BMWwikiwiki.com

Because the Wiki is easily organized and sorted and searched, I've decided to DROP the scope limitations of the previous web site (M102/M106 motors). The idea is to make this site the premier source of up-to-date BMW tech data on the 'net. www.BMWwikiwiki.com is open to ALL BMW FANATICS, all years, all models.

There is no self-registration right now. Editor rights are by invitation only. If you want to request an invitation, see Collection Editors .

P-S One important note. I believe that many of the online "club" web sites have commercial motives. Because their main mission is to make a profit, they do not put the focus on providing free exchange of data, and equal voice for all members. My policy has always been to build non-profit web sites. This is the way the BMW CCA is structured and I think this is the ethical way to do it. For that reason, www.BMWwikiwiki.com is and will remain "not-for-profit."
